Salsa Basic Steps
Although there are many different basic Salsa steps, the following step is the most common: It is alternating between steps forward and backwards and extended to two strokes. This is why we count until 8.
The basic step begins with the first beat of the stroke. The man starts with a step backwards with the left feet (1), the woman dances her first step backwards with the right feet (1). Afterwards a step is made at the very same place (2) and another one to close the position (3).
The breaks on stroke 4 and 8 are very important.
This is how you dance:
Move forward, at the place, together, break. Move backwards, at the place, together, break
And … 1, 2, 3, break, 5, 6, 7, break ….
